We are sad to say we may not be able to operate at the Hayden / Coeur d’Alene Airport this year.
If you have a reservation we still plan to jump with you! We are working with alternate airports in the area, such as Shoshone County Airport and Priest River Airport in the event we cannot resolve things at “KCOE” quickly.
The Airport Director claims minimum standards are not met because we do not have a “facility” DZONE feels the standards cannot be met because the airport has denied our land lease. DZONE has applied for an exclusive lease of 40,000 square feet of land. This is significantly more land than any other single plane operator on the airfield.
Airport minimum standards do in fact state that a facility is required but nowhere in the standards is facility defined as an office. Since skydiving does not happen in an office we interpret our facility as the 40,000 ft² of land we have requested to lease.
For the last two years we have also maintained a hangar and office space until Resort Aviation was bought by their competitor StanCraft and our lease terminated.
Since we are at an impasse with the Airport Manager we have requested a waiver/variance of his interpretation of the standards to accept leasing us the Landing Zone.
Interestingly, the airport finds it appropriate to lease bare land to a skeet shooting range (shooting up and towards the flight traffic pattern) but is fighting against legitimate aeronautical use.
Please take a moment to send a message to our Kootenai County Commissioners and Airport Board Members and show your support to keep Skydiving alive in Coeur d’Alene and that A LEASED SKYDIVING LANDING AREA IS A FACILITY”.
